Training

-  The Hartford Fire Department holds training activities every Monday evening at 6pm.  On occasion additional training is scheduled at other times.  Each member is required to meet the state defined training hours per year to remain an active member.  Each member puts on average 80 to 100 hours per year of training while on the Hartford Fire Department.  Some members seek outside training and end up with over 200 hours per year.  "Plan, work, achieve...repeat." - Chief David DuShane II

Search and Rescue Training at Middle River Friends Church

Monday night training consisted of search and rescue held at Middle River Friends Church. Crews from Hartford Fire Department and Northern Warren Fire Department had the opportunity to enter a limited visibility, smoke filled environment with the goal of finding occupants that were staged for rescue. Training like this is an invaluable experience that allows our members to practice and hone their skills in a safe and controlled way. Thank you to everyone that attended!

Vehicle Fire Training

Monday night training this week consisted of vehicle fire operations. This training included not only Hartford Fire Department, but Carlisle Fire Department and Pleasantville Emergency Services also. Combined trainings such as this help to ensure that all departments involved are able to work together seamlessly when responding to an emergency. Thank you to all that attended, and thank you to Iowa Fire Service Training Bureau for providing the vehicle prop that helped make this training possible!

Fire Academy 2025
Some of our members have been busy over the last few months with the Warren County Fire Academy training on basic fire ground operations.  Successful completion of this Academy will result in them earning their Firefighter I & II certifications, along with HAZMAT and EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operations) certifications. This academy also gave a couple of our members who had just finished their Instructor I Class, the opportunity to gain the required teaching hours needed to obtain their Instructor I certifications. Training with our neighboring departments allows us to not only learn from each other, but helps foster better working relationships, ultimately making us work better as a team and ensure we are a united front for our communities!

Anhydrous training March 20, 2025 put on by National Education Center For Agricultural Safety (NECAS), and hosted at Indianola Fire Department. With multiple warren county departments in attendance, trainings such as this one allow us to train together and foster good working relationships!

Partnering with SIMIA and utilizing their simulator truck to practice EMT skills and scenarios. This type of training is invaluable to ensure that all of our medics stay current on their skills and get exposed to new trends in medical care! Feburary 17, 2025
Annual Fire Convention - where we focus on team building and get a chance to have a little down time! Each year, teams from all over the state compete in the Iowa Firefighter Association events. September 2024

Live Fire Training
April 30, 2016

Members of the Hartford Fire Department were able to take place in a live training exercise with the Indianola Fire department.  This was a great opportunity to get some pump training in on New Engine 521, as well as getting newer members in to a controlled live fire scenario. Thank you Indianola for the invite, our members had a great time.

Hydrant Hooking
Monday February 22nd

Members of the HVFD participated in a very important hands on training on Monday February 22nd.  HVFD members "hooked hydrants" with Engine 521 and Engine 522 in town.  This drill took place from 7pm to 10pm.  Members were able to obtain some very important night training during this drill.  Each member was able to catch the hydrant and pull a hose line off the truck and spray water.

Members of the HVFD hosted a Hand Tools Class
Monday February 15th,2016

Fred Melvin was kind enough to bring some friends along to teach a very nice class on Hand Tools.  Fred showed members of the HVFD how minor altercations can make a huge impact on how tools can be used to a firefighter's advantage.  Thank you very much for coming to spend a few hours in our house Fred!
